Lip Flip in East Meadow, Long Island

If your upper lip seems to disappear when you smile, adding filler isn’t always the only option.

A lip flip uses a small amount of neuromodulator around the upper lip to reduce selected muscular pull. In the right patient, this can allow more of the existing upper lip to remain visible without adding dermal filler volume.

Physician-led aesthetic care in East Meadow, Long Island.

A lip flip doesn’t add volume.

A lip flip works by changing the activity of muscles around the upper lip.

The goal is a subtle outward turning, or eversion, of the existing upper lip, allowing slightly more of the pink lip to show.

It does not place filler inside the lips.

It does not create additional lip tissue.

And it should not be confused with lip filler.

Lip filler adds volume. A lip flip reveals more of the lip you already have.

Start with what bothers you.

A lip-flip consultation may make sense if you find yourself saying:

“My upper lip disappears when I smile.”

Dynamic muscle movement may be contributing to the concern.

“I want a little more upper lip, but I don’t necessarily want filler.”

A lip flip may be worth discussing.

“My lips look fine when my face is relaxed, but different when I smile.”

That distinction matters. We evaluate the lips both at rest and in motion.

“I want a very subtle change.”

A lip flip is generally intended to create a modest change rather than dramatic lip enlargement.

“I’m not sure whether I need filler or Botox.”

Perfect. You should not have to diagnose your own lips before coming in.

Clear prices. Personalized treatment.

At LIPS NY, Botox and Xeomin are currently priced at:

$9.50 per unit

The treatment plan and toxin selected are determined after evaluation.

The 10-unit minimum is the practice’s minimum toxin treatment purchase. It does not mean every patient receives 10 units specifically in the upper lip.

You don’t need to choose before your appointment.

Rainforest Medical Aesthetics offers Botox and Xeomin at the same current per-unit price.

Your provider can discuss the product being considered as part of your treatment plan.

Botox and Xeomin are different botulinum toxin products. Their labeled potency units are product-specific and should not be assumed to be interchangeable simply because both are priced per unit.

Your job isn’t to choose the vial. Tell us what you want to change. We’ll start there.

Which one gives you “more lip”?

That depends on what more lip means to you.

LIP FLIP

Changes muscle activity
May allow more of your existing upper lip to remain visible.
Does not add filler volume
Best discussed when the concern is related to upper-lip position or movement.

10-unit minimum — $95 minimum treatment.

LIP FILLER

Adds physical volume
Can be used to address fullness, shape, definition and certain proportional concerns.
Changes actual lip volume
Lip filler is priced per syringe.

From $399 per syringe

What if I need both?

Some patients may have a volume concern, a movement concern, or elements of both.

That is why we prefer: Goal first. Treatment second.

Sometimes filler really is the better conversation.

A lip flip is not designed to replace filler when your primary goal is:

significantly fuller lips;
added physical volume;
major changes in lip shape;
volume restoration;
selected asymmetries related to lip volume; or
greater projection from the profile.

If you want noticeably fuller lips, lip filler may better address the concern.

Similar area. Different goal.

A lip flip and gummy-smile treatment both involve neuromodulation around the mouth, but they address different concerns.

LIP FLIP

The goal is greater visibility of the upper lip.

GUMMY SMILE

The goal is to address excessive gum display associated with upper-lip movement in an appropriate patient.

Some patients may notice both concerns.

Rather than automatically treating both, we evaluate what actually happens when you smile.

Your smile is part of the examination.

Lip aesthetics aren’t static.

A photograph of relaxed lips tells us something.

A smile tells us something else.

That distinction helps determine whether your concern is primarily about volume, movement—or both.

Not in the way filler does.

A lip flip does not inject additional volume into the lip.

Instead, neuromodulation may allow a portion of the existing upper lip to turn slightly outward and become more visible.

So when someone says:

“I want my upper lip to show more.”

A lip flip might be part of the conversation.

When someone says:

“I want actually fuller lips.”

We are probably having a different conversation.

A lip flip is not an instant filler result.

Because the treatment relies on neuromodulation rather than adding physical volume, the effect develops after treatment rather than appearing immediately like injected filler volume.

Your provider will explain what to expect from the specific toxin and treatment plan selected for you.

We recommend evaluating the result after it has had appropriate time to develop rather than judging it immediately after injection.

Lip flips are temporary.

Neuromodulator treatment gradually wears off as muscular activity returns.

Duration varies from patient to patient and should not be promised as an exact number of months.

If you like the result, ongoing treatment requires repeat evaluation and treatment over time.

What does “off-label” mean?

Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin are FDA-approved medications with specific labeled indications.

A lip flip is not one of the FDA-approved cosmetic indications listed in the current prescribing information for either Botox Cosmetic or Xeomin.
Using an approved medication for a purpose that is not included in its FDA-approved labeling is called off-label use.

Off-label prescribing is used in many areas of medicine. For cosmetic lip treatment, it means the decision should be based on an individualized medical evaluation, discussion of expected benefits and risks, and informed consent.

At LIPS NY, we believe patients should understand what treatment they are receiving and why.

Small treatment area. Important muscles.

The muscles around your mouth do much more than affect appearance.

They also help you:

  • speak;
  • sip;
  • drink through a straw;
  • whistle;
  • smile;
  • control liquids around the mouth.

Because lip-flip treatment intentionally changes muscular activity, temporary functional changes can occur.

This is one reason we treat the lip flip as a medical procedure—not a beauty-bar add-on.

Before & After should include a smile.

A useful lip-flip comparison shows the smile as well as the lips at rest.

Look for the following views when a lip-flip result is shown:

Before — relaxed

Before — full smile

After — relaxed

After — full smile

Because a lip flip is about movement, the results should show movement.

Here’s what the appointment should feel like.

01

Tell us what you’re seeing.

“My upper lip disappears.”
“I don’t want filler.”
“I show too much gum.”
“I just want a tiny change.”

That is enough information to start.

02

We look at your lips at rest and while moving.

The difference matters.

03

We determine whether the concern is volume or movement.

Sometimes the answer is filler.
Sometimes it is neuromodulator.
Sometimes both are worth discussing.
And sometimes treatment is not necessary.

04

We explain the plan and price.

Botox or Xeomin is currently $9.50 per unit with a 10-unit minimum, making the minimum treatment $95.

05

You decide whether to proceed.

Lip Flip Questions

Is a lip flip the same as lip filler?
No. Lip filler adds physical volume. A lip flip changes muscle activity around the upper lip and does not add filler volume.
Botox or Xeomin is currently $9.50 per unit with a 10-unit minimum, for a minimum treatment price of $95. Final treatment is determined after evaluation.
A lip flip may make more of the existing upper lip visible through subtle eversion, but it does not add actual filler volume.
Possibly, if your concern is related to upper-lip movement or visibility rather than lack of volume. The two treatments address different problems.
They address different mechanisms, so both may be discussed in selected patients.
Lip flip and gummy-smile treatments involve different treatment goals and may involve different injection strategies. If excessive gum display is your main concern, it should be evaluated specifically.
Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin are FDA-approved products, but lip flip is an off-label use and is not included among their current FDA-approved cosmetic indications.
